How to Combine Your Weight Loss Diet With A Cholesterol Lowering Diet

Did you know that your diet for weight loss is very similar to a diet for lowering cholesterol? Even though there are signs that high cholesterol can be passed on through our genes, there are still ways in which we can help to combat that and lower the levels of bad cholesterol in our bodies by using certain foods that will help you and your battle with cholesterol.

One important thing that will help is garlic. You should start using garlic in as many things as you possibly can. Add it to all of your pasta dishes, any soups that you eat and of course make sure to add it to all of the vegetables that you eat.

When you saute vegetables for a meal the best way to add some cholesterol lowering agent is to saute your veggies in extra virgin olive oil. It is a proven fact that this oil can and does lower your LDL which is the bad cholesterol. You can also use this oil in making salad dressings and homemade marinades.

You should also consider adding more beans to your diet and try to include them 3 to 5 times a week. This means to try and include things like lentils, black beans and rise. You can take kidney beans and just throw them into a salad and you will have fulfilled one serving for the day.

Add walnuts and almonds to your diet for these do a great job of lowering you LDL levels and it only takes about 2 ounces of them a day for them to start doing their job. These two nuts are high in fat so if you eat too much of them you could put on some pounds so try and stick with the 2 ounces a day and no more.

Make sure that you add oatmeal to your diet. Having oatmeal for breakfast will give you the kind of soluble fiber that you need to help to lower the LDL in your blood. You should try to eat about 10 grams of this kind of fiber every day of the week in order to lower your cholesterol.

Try to add more vegetarian meals to your diet or at least try and use meat as the additive to the meal and not the main course. This mean make the vegetable, pasta or rice the main dish with meat added to it as if it were a condiment instead.

Make sure that the products you buy don't have any hydrogenated oils. If you buy lots of cookies or crackers make sure to read their labels before buying them because a lot of these kinds of things have this kind of oil in them and this is what raises your cholesterol levels.

Try to include more soy products in your diet as well as things with cholesterol lowering agents such as plant stanols. You might look for this in margarine and use this kind of margarine instead of butter. Also make sure to add flax seed, barley, carrots and sweet potatoes to your diet.
